Thanks a lot for writing this, Rob. I'm really sorry to hear about Kallisti -- I was just thinking about her, in fact, because we still have up on our fridge the holiday card that y'all sent us.
Our little guys also got fleas a couple years ago, and we were also in semi-denial about it, resulting in it taking us way too long to do anything about it. We thought the flea dirt was just dandruff or something. When we finally bathed poor Andre, the fleas were jumping off of him all over the place. I've never cleaned any place more thoroughly than I did our house after that. (The cats now take a monthly preventative flea treatment.) So I think I understand something of how you felt about the fleas.
Alex's cats have been a constant presence in my life ever since Alex and I got together more than ten years ago. Now Sylvia loves them, too. But they're old now, and I think often about how hard it's going to be to say goodbye to them eventually, and especially about how hard it'll be to explain to Sylvia.
